HEALTH ASSESSMENTS
Preventative Health Assessments.
Our GPs are here to treat you if you feel unwell but most importantly to prevent future health problems.
Preventative Health Care is an integral part of General Practice and includes the prevention of illness, early detection of specific diseases and the proactive approach to reduce lifestyle risk factors and to reach goals of maintaining and improving your health in partnership with your GP.
What is a Health Assessment?
Health Assessments provide the opportunity for your GP to undertake an in-depth assessment of your health. The assessment will cover medical, physical, psychological and social aspects of health.
Why is the doctor suggesting a Health Assessment for me?
Your doctor is offering you a health assessment to assist you to maintain good health. It allows your GP to have a comprehensive check in with you yearly and to take specific notice of areas which are hard to cover in a normal consultation. Specifically, cardiovascular (risk of strokes and heart attacks) and cancer screening as well as optimising general health and well-being to improve quality of life and prevent complications of disease.
A health assessment also provides you an opportunity to raise any concerns that you may have about your health, such as hearing difficulties, nutrition or sleeping problems. By identifying and treating health conditions and concerns early, we can significantly improve overall health outcomes and quality of life.
How do I prepare for my Health Assessment?
You will need to do a blood test at least 3 days prior to your health assessment appointment and bring a urine sample on the day of your appointment. You will have a pathology request form waiting for you at our reception for your bloods.
**There is an Australian Clinical labs now located inside our practice for your convenience. Open Mon-Fri 8.30am-12.30pm.
What happens during a Health Assessment?
You will see our Practice Nurse for the first 30 minutes and then your GP for 30-40 minutes. They will check on a number of areas of your health.
Are there any costs?
Government funded Health Assessments are offered to specific age groups (see below) with no cost to the patient. Patients that are not eligible for a free Health Assessment, there is a fee payable between $180-$200 out of pocket.
